Airmen pick out their free Christmas tree at the Ellsworth Air Force Base
Ellsworth Air Force Base airmen are getting a little special Christmas treat.
The air force base hosts their 11th Trees for Troops tree giveaway.
181 Christmas trees were shipped from Lincoln, Nebraska to Box Elder for airmen and citizens to go through and pick up for free.
The families of deployed airmen and airmen who will be leaving soon got first dibs to pick up a Christmas tree to bring home to their family.
There was even one special tree spray painted in red, white and blue.
The Christmas Spirit foundation organizes this every year to bring a little extra Christmas cheer.
"We've always received one hundred percent positive feedback when we're giving trees even to those who are deployed or not. I mean it's really just something where they can come locally on base. It's easy for them to just come here, grab a tree and bring it home and then it kind of brings that warm and nice evergreen smell into the house for the holidays," says Ellsworth Air Force Base Out Direct Manager.
There are several tree farms and garden centers around the Midwest that plant trees for people to purchase to donate to the military as well.
