CMSA Mounted Shooting Shoot Out brings action to the Stock Show & Rodeo

Putting their boots on the ground was not the only thing cowboys and cowgirls were doing at the stock show and rodeo Friday. They came out for some action and putting their horses and shooting skills to the test.

They did it with some cowboy mounted shooting, one of the fastest growing equestrian sports in the nation. With ten balloons set up on the dirt, contestants run with two Colt .45 long single-action pistols With the help of their horse, it is all about mastering and negotiating nearly 100 different shooting patterns, avoiding penalties, and staying up to speed with procedure.

John Krohmer, a rider, says "It looks easy but it is a lot harder than you think. You go to get in sync with your horse, plus you got to be a fast gunman, it takes alot of practice to move up and get higher levels and stuff.

There is no doubt competitors are running for high points in this competition. Shooters in all levels travel all over the nation to participate in mounted shoots. Shooters will meet for the World Finals Competition in Texas later this year.
