How to safely watch the solar eclipse

We are less than two weeks away from the greatly-anticipated solar eclipse, but there are some things to remember to keep safe during the big event.

Special solar eclipse glasses are required for viewing.

Doctors say sunglasses are not enough to watch the eclipse and say you need ISO certified glasses.

They say otherwise, you could face lifelong repercussions.

Rebecca Linquist, Ophthalmologist with Rapid City Medical Center says, "If you don't have proper protection, you can cause damage to your retina. It can cause blurriness, blindness, even permanent damage to those eyes. So we want you to keep those eyes safe if you're wanting to see the solar eclipse."

Linquist says you also need a filter for your camera or phone if taking photos.

The Rapid City Medical Center is selling eclipse glasses for $2.50. Other stores around town and Amazon carry them as well.

The solar eclipse is on August 21st.
