Hardrockers look to help fossil preservation in UT

Hardrockers put their minds to the test to help preserve valuable fossils in central Utah.

The School of Mines class took the semester to create a management plan to help improve the Cleveland Lloyd Dinosaur Quarry.

The fossils are only protected by aging buildings, which students say allows for mold to grow.

The class also recommends increased staff and security along with community engagement.

The site is under the Bureau of Land Management which reached out to Mines for help.

Nicholas Reid, a School of Mines sophomore, said "Having a BLM site, especially one of such unique importance reach out to us, has really imparted in me that School of Mines is a world reknowned school and something that's good enough that other people come to us for help."

Students also spoke with experts for the project - including some from the Mammoth Site in Hot Springs.
