Ellsworth airmen give back to military families of the fallen

It's Memorial Day weekend and while many are out barbecuing and camping, others are taking the time to recognize the real reason behind this holiday.

Hundreds flocked to the Black Hills National Cemetery on Saturday to honor those that gave the ultimate sacrifice, and Black Hills FOX Reporter Katrina Lim shows us how our current service men and women devoted their weekend, continuing to give back to the country.

Memorial Day is a day many spend relaxing and enjoying time with family, but not every military member had a chance to come home.

Today volunteers from the 28th Bomb Wing of Ellsworth Air Force Base gave their time ... helping others who are mourning the loss of their military loved ones.

Sgt. Logan Stringham says, "I think people should remember the sacrifice that everybody out here that's buried here has made for the United States, for our country and to come out to these types of events and remember."

Sergeant Jerome Lundy says looking at the thousands of headstones brings him back to reality.

Sgt. Jerome Lundy says, "It's a reminder of what we sign up for. A lot of people sign up four to six years, but when you sign your name on that contract, you're saying that o you'll give the ultimate sacrifice, which is your life, and a lot of people out here did."

Morgan Bradley comes from a military family serving in multiple branches.

She says she's more than happy to help families find their loved ones and lend them a listening ear.

Morgan Bradley says, "It honestly means the world to me. I can't tell you how many times I've been to services or how many times I've visited graves, visiting family members, friends, or even just spending time with people."

And the airmen want people to remember Memorial Day is not about celebrating a day off work.

Sgt. Jerome Lundy says, "It's not just a holiday to barbecue or hang out with loved ones. It's a time to remember the armed forces. The veterans."

On Sunday veterans will place flags on every grave in honor of Memorial Day.
