Mike Smith

Mike has lived in Illinois his whole life. Originally from the Chicagoland area, Mike made his way to Central Illinois in 2016 after two years at Moraine Valley Community College in Palos Heights.
Mike graduated from Illinois State University in 2019 with a Bachelor of Science in Journalism and a minor in Political Science. There, he worked as a reporter for The Vidette student newspaper and as a reporter and anchor for TV-10 News.
He most recently earned his Master's degree in Public Affairs Reporting through the PAR Program at the University of Illinois Springfield.
During his master's program, Mike worked as the interim reporter for NPR Illinois covering political news at the Capitol Building during the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic.
After college, Mike worked as the Executive Digital Producer at WMBD-TV in Peoria from 2020-2022.
