Lily Lowndes

Multimedia Journalist
Lily Lowndes

Lily Lowndes is a curious individual who believes in reporting with compassion and rigor. She joined 13ABC Action News as a multimedia journalist in September 2023.

A Midwesterner through and through, Lily grew up in Madison, Wisconsin and graduated college from DePaul University in Chicago. Before coming to Toledo, Lily interned at ABC7 Chicago in the digital news department.

Lily graduated Summa Cum Laude from DePaul with a degree in journalism, public relations and advertising. She’s had stories air on Chicago’s PBS station through her work with DePaul University’s Center for Journalism Integrity and Excellence.

While in college, Lily was heavily involved in student media. She reported for DePaul’s online magazine 14 East, newspaper The DePaulia and the Good Day DePaul newscast. She covered a range of topics including the Covid-19 pandemic, K-Pop’s impact on the American music industry, the 2023 Chicago mayoral election, Chicago Fashion Week and the Chicago Sky’s first WNBA Championship win. She has interviewed politicians, activists, local artists and a “blue man” from the Blue Man Group. As a big movie fan, one of her bucket list items was taking part in a press junket, which she crossed off after interviewing Alison Brie, Dave Franco, and Zach Braff about their films.

Lily was recognized nationally for her work as social media editor at The DePaulia and was named a finalist for the College Media Association’s Best Social Media Main page award. She also earned an honorable mention for Best Column at the 2023 Illinois College Press awards.

When she’s not at work, Lily enjoys doing anything artsy, from painting to sewing to collaging to playing oboe. She is a proponent of reality competition shows and zombie movies. Send any tips or story ideas to lily.lowndes@13abc.com.
