2 kids killed when fallen tree traps them inside burning house during Helene
WASHINGTON COUNTY, Ga. (WRDW/Gray News) - Two children in Georgia were killed when a fallen tree trapped them inside a burning house during Helene.
The Washington County Sheriff’s Office received a call at about 4 a.m. Friday reporting a house fire, Washington County Sheriff Joel Cochran said.
Cochran reported a tree had fallen against the burning home, trapping a 7-year-old boy and a 4-year-old girl inside.
Both of the children died, according to the sheriff.
According to the Associated Press, at least 35 storm-related deaths have been reported in Florida, Georgia and the Carolinas.
Hurricane Helene made landfall in the Big Ben area of Florida’s Gulf Coast as a Category 4 storm Thursday. The storm has since then made its way through the Southeast, causing catastrophic flooding and destruction.
