Man accused in attempted Trump assassination penned chilling letter detailing plan
WASHINGTON (Gray DC) - A witness says they’ve obtained a letter, allegedly detailing 58-year-old Ryan Routh’s plan to kill the former President.
The letter reads, quote “Dear world, this is an assassination attempt on Donald Trump, but I am sorry I failed you. I tried my best and gave it all the gumption I could muster. It is up to you now to finish the job; and I will offer $150,000 to whomever can complete the job.”
The witness told authorities that last month Routh dropped off a box of materials at his home, and it wasn’t until after Routh’s arrest that he opened the package and found the letter.
Routh was spotted on September 15th hiding with a rifle in a wooded area near the Trump International Golf course in West Palm Beach. Cell phone data shows he had been waiting up to 12 hours.
The Secret Service fired shots at Routh before he ran away.
He was later apprehended on a highway.
Lawyers say Routh had a list of events and dates Donald Trump was expected to attend in the coming weeks.
They also found google searches of how to get from Florida to Mexico.
Court documents show he was charged with two firearm offenses, but more serious charges are expected as the investigation ramps up.
Monday’s court appearance is a detention hearing, he continues to be held in federal custody with no bail.
