FedEx driver accused of shooting at dogs while making delivery
PORT CLINTON, Ohio (WTVG/Gray News) – A couple in Ohio was in disbelief when they heard gunshots outside their home as a FedEx driver was making a delivery.
Police said the driver admitted to firing his gun on the job because he was afraid for his life.
CJ Perry had just gone inside her home after a work meeting when she heard what she thought were gunshots.
Looking out her window, she saw a FedEx delivery driver outside her neighbor’s house, taking a picture of his delivery and nothing seemed out of the ordinary.
But Perry’s ears did not deceive her. After her roommate asked her what was going on, she realized she had, in fact, heard gunfire.
“I looked out the window, and there were a bunch of cops standing outside the neighbor’s house,” Perry said.
According to the Port Clinton Police Department, the FedEx driver said he was delivering packages when a neighbor’s two German shepherds ran out of the house toward him.
The FedEx driver fired at one of the dogs, and they both ran back inside.
Police said no one was hurt, and the dogs are OK.
Officers found two shell casings during their investigation. Perry said she believes one of the bullets ricocheted off the sidewalk and hit her truck.
Perry and her husband said they were frustrated but glad their truck was the only thing hit.
“You know, it could’ve hit the house, it could’ve hit my wife, it could’ve hit anyone really and the irresponsibility of that FedEx driver,” Devon said.
Police said the driver was carrying two magazines and a Glock 23 on his waist. The driver was released from the scene and the investigation is ongoing.
No charges have been filed at this time.
“Safety is our highest priority, and we have fully cooperated with law enforcement in its investigation. The individual involved is no longer providing service on behalf of FedEx,” a representative with FedEx said in a statement.
