Tropical Storm Gordon forms in the Atlantic; forecast to remain over open waters
(Gray News) — Tropical Storm Gordon formed in the Atlantic Ocean Friday, but forecasters believe it will remain over open waters for several days.
The National Hurricane Center in Miami reported the storm was located 990 miles from Cabo Verde Islands and is moving west-northwest at 12 mph.
According to an Associated Press report, Gordan currently has maximum sustained winds of 40 mph. The storm is expected to strengthen slightly before weakening as it turns northwest.
Gordon is the seventh named storm of the 2024 Atlantic hurricane season.
Parts of the U.S. are being impacted by the remnants of Hurricane Francine.
The storm slammed into the Louisiana coast Wednesday and drenched a large portion of the South.
