16-year-old killed after car crashes into horse drawn buggy, police say
RIPLEY TOWNSHIP, Ohio (WTVG/Gray News) - A 16-year-old who was driving a horse drawn buggy has died following a crash in Ohio Tuesday.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol said the crash took place just before 7:15 p.m. near Ripley Township in Huron County.
Troopers said a 43-year-old driving a 2015 Chevy 2500 and the 16-year-old driving the horse drawn buggy were both heading west on Baseline Road.
The 43-year-old reportedly failed to keep a safe distance from the buggy and crashed in the back of it, causing it to go off the right side of the road.
The driver of the buggy, identified as Barbara Rissler, was thrown from the buggy along with a 21-year-old passenger. Both sustained serious injuries, according to authorities.
Emergency responders rushed the two to area hospitals. Rissler died from her injuries on Wednesday, officials said.
The 43-year-old was not wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash and didn’t suffer any injuries.
