Man followed home from bar, stabbed 15 times after winning lottery jackpot, authorities say

PORTLAND, Ore. (KPTV/Gray News) - A Portland man is recovering after he was stabbed more than a dozen times following a lottery jackpot win.

According to court documents, a man was at Montana’s Bar in Southeast Portland Saturday night where he won $2,000 playing a video lottery machine.

While there, he met 61-year-old Pablo Figueroa.

Authorities said Figueroa followed the man home to his apartment and slipped through the security gate.

Figueroa reportedly forced the man’s apartment door open and tackled and punched him.

The lottery winner gave Figueroa cash, but he ended up getting stabbed with a pocketknife 15 times, authorities said.

A neighbor who called 911 said she saw her neighbor and friend covered in blood.

“We heard banging. We heard furniture. We heard yelling. We heard some type of argument going on and that’s when the stabbing happened,” another neighbor, who didn’t want to be identified, said.

Court documents shared that police found the suspect in a trash room in the apartment complex along with the knife he had used.

“We are deeply concerned about this incident and are working closely with the authorities to support the affected resident. Additionally, we are providing access to counseling services to ensure all residents feel supported during this time,” a spokesperson for the apartment complex said in a statement.

Figueroa has a criminal history dating back to 2021 with charges of auto theft and identity theft where he was also cited for failure to appear for his court date.

Court records show Figueroa is currently being held without bail on multiple charges including attempted murder.
