LAUREL, Miss. (WDAM/Gray News) - A hospice patient and his wife renewed their marriage vows and celebrated 25 years of marriage.

The ceremony was arranged by caregivers at the hospice where Buddy Myers is a patient.

Buddy Myers, 76, was diagnosed with vocal cord cancer eight months ago.

He and his wife, Sonja Myers, wanted to renew their vows for their 25th wedding anniversary and caregivers stepped in to make that happen a little early.

They got married on June 8, 2000, by a judge, so for their vow renewal, Sonja Myers really wanted to walk down an aisle in a wedding dress.

“I started contemplating for a little while and thinking about it and was like, ‘We could make that happen a little early,’” said Raven Anderson, a registered nurse with ComfortCare Hospice.

During the ceremony, Sonja Myers got to walk down the aisle in a wedding dress.

The Myers renewed their vows in front of family, friends and caregivers on Saturday.
