27-year-old killed when tree limb falls on car during storms
CANTON, Ga. (WANF/Gray News) - Officials have identified a man who was killed Tuesday evening after a large tree limb fell on his car.
The victim was 27-year-old Levi Benjamin Wilson, according to the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office. Wilson was driving on Vaughn Road in Canton, Georgia, when the incident happened.
Wilson’s family said that he was a triplet.
His family said Wilson was on his way back to his parent’s house with food when the incident happened.
“A big gust of wind as I was backing in the garage pushed a bunch of branches and trees all the way down my driveway and into the basement, and about the time, I got into the basement we lost power, and I heard a big crash,” said Tim Morris, a witness who lives nearby where the incident happened.
Nobody else was in the car, the sheriff’s office said.
“There were several people out here trying to assist. We, obviously, didn’t want to pull him out of the car, but we were trying to reach 911 and we lost connection several times. It took me 15 minutes to get a hold of 911, so everybody was here trying to give a helping hand,” Morris said.
The death happened as strong storms swept through metro Atlanta and the state at large, knocking down trees and power lines alike.
“It is a freak accident. We pulled it up on the camera and he was coming down the road just like a normal person would, and it was just a freak accident,” Morris said.
