Utility worker, volunteer firefighter, electrocuted on the job while fixing broken AC unit
ANDERSON, S.C. (WHNS/Gray News) - Officials in South Carolina say an employee died while working at a water facility earlier this week.
According to the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office, 23-year-old Tristan Garrett Stone was working at the Anderson Regional Joint Water System on Thursday when he was electrocuted.
Stone appeared to have been electrocuted while working in the facility on Vanguard Road.
Emergency personnel attempted resuscitation efforts, but the 23-year-old did not survive.
Coroner Don McCown said Stone was trying to fix a broken air conditioning unit when he cut a live wire.
The sheriff’s office said Stone’s death remains under investigation and the South Carolina Occupational Safety and Health Administration has also been informed.
Officials said they are not aware of any previous safety issues at the facility.
The Hopewell Fire Department said Stone joined its firefighting team as a volunteer in May 2023.
“He was always eager to learn something new, drive a truck any chance he got, and loved running fire calls,” the agency shared. “He was a guy who truly loved his fire department and you could always count on.”
