RAPID CITY, S.D. (KEVN) - Plastic Free July® is a global movement that helps millions of people to be inspired to take steps to reduce plastic pollution for cleaner streets, oceans, and beautiful communities.

Rapid City, will you be part of Plastic Free July by choosing to refuse single-use plastics for July?

In a vibrant commitment, Rapid City residents can take part in a creative contest to depict a digital design of what a greener, cleaner city would like for you. Ria Hannon, Education and Outreach Coordinator for the Rapid City Solid Waste Division says to be as creative as you want to be and color in what a free-of-plastic city would look like with no pollution from plastic and make your own. Hannon says the contest is for grades K-8 with two different age groups, one for K-5 and one for 6th-8th grade.

Each winner will get their artwork displayed on the digital billboards in Rapid City for two weeks. The contest will be open until July 14. Voting will begin July 15 and end on July 19. Voting will take place on our Facebook page.

According to Plastic Free July, they provide resources and ideas to help you reduce single-use plastic waste every day at home, work, school, and even at your local café. The movement has inspired 100+ million participants in 190 countries. You making a small change will collectively make a massive difference to our communities. You can choose to refuse single-use plastics in July and beyond. Best of all, being part of Plastic Free July will help you to find great alternatives that can become new habits forever.
