Mother, father arrested after 2-year-old daughter drowns in pond
HAMLIN, W.Va. (WSAZ/Gray News) - A mother and a father in West Virginia are facing charges after two children fell into a pond with one of them dying.
According to West Virginia State Police, Tara Adkins, 24, and Jack Parsons, Jr., 30, were arrested this week and charged with child neglect resulting in death and child neglect creating risk of injury.
Troopers said they were called Wednesday evening about a possible drowning at a farm pond in the Hamlin area.
A 2-year-old girl and a 3-year-old boy were reportedly found in the pond.
The children were taken to a nearby hospital, but the girl was pronounced dead while the boy remained hospitalized.
According to a criminal complaint, Parsons told emergency crews he was outside performing yard work when the children had come outside with him.
He said he thought the two children had gone inside the home until Adkins came outside asking where the children were.
