Nothing new coming from RCAS Board of Education regarding controversial comments
RAPID CITY, S.D. (KEVN) - Two weeks have passed, and the Rapid City Area Schools Board of Education has still not decided if they intend to take action against the district superintendent for making controversial comments about Native Americans.
CONTEXT: RCAS superintendent apologizes for reported comments on US DOE Office of Civil Rights letter
The RCAS board meeting Tuesday did not mention any action against district superintendent Nicole Swigart. She made comments about Native Americans and the way they view education in the U.S. Department of Education’s Office of Civil Rights.
The board did not speak publicly about the situation, and that left some members of the community dissatisfied.
“I showed up today (Tuesday) to follow through on our demand for the release of Superintendent Swigart from her position. We continue to ask: where is the accountability? The school board’s comments condemning her racist remarks need to be backed by action. What steps will be taken publicly? Where is the transparency? We’re not letting this go; it’s not okay. We will persist in this conversation until action is taken. Racism isn’t forgotten—it has been internalized by our children for decades, as the OCR (Office of Civil Rights) report has revealed. We demand action and accountability,” stated Rapid City community member Sunny Red Bear.
We have yet to hear if anything will come from the board of education regarding Superintendent Swigart.
