RAPID CITY, S.D. (KEVN) - Later this week construction will begin on Old Belle Road between Russell Street and Tumbleweed Trail in Spearfish.

The project is creating a new shared-use path for walkers and bikers in Spearfish to make getting around safer and easier.

Mainline Contracting is the prime contractor, and they are working with the Department of Transportation and the City of Spearfish on this $1.7 million project.

“Probably, for the people of Spearfish it’ll be an easy way to get around walking and on their bikes from the central part of town ultimately to the subdivision off of Russel Street. So, it’s a safe way for those folks who don’t want to be in a car to get around town and most specifically into downtown Spearfish,” Project Manager at Mainline Contracting, Ben Haggerty said.

The project will not close Old Belle Road, but drivers should be aware of lane closures and sudden stops.

As of right now, the project will be completed by November 2024.
