RAPID CITY, S.D. (KEVN) - A craft brewery is a business that makes and sells its own beer.

From 2006 to 2022 more than 9 thousand breweries were operating in the United States.

Currently, there are 59 breweries in South Dakota, according to IBISWorld.com.

One of those 59 is Lost Cabin Beer Company.

“At the time we were home brewers and had about 16 beers on tap in Toms’s garage, and decided it wasn’t really a hobby anymore, so we decided to make a go of it,” Jesse Scheitler, co-founder of Lost Cabin Beer Company, said.

Lost Cabin has been operating for eight years, and now has two locations, one in Rapid City and one in Hill City.

From home brewers to opening their own business, co-owner Scheitler said they like collaborating with local businesses.

“Any excuse we have to work with like-minded businesses and like-minded people, we’re all about it,” Scheitler said.

Currently, Lost Cabin has 28 beers on tap in Rapid City and 16 in Hill City.

Each brew takes a different amount of time for processing and production.

“Anywhere from two weeks to a month, from brewing to releasing them in cans and kegs,” Scheitler said.

The beer is also available in 16-ounce cans in liquor stores across the state.
