RAPID CITY, S.D. (KEVN) -Very July-like today with many folks close to Rapid might see their first 90 degree reading on their car thermometer. Upper 80s and lower 90s are expected from just below the Black Hills and into the Badlands and our southern/eastern areas like Hot Springs, Pine Ridge, Phillip & Kadoka. These places may even reach the mid 90s at times.

Overall, clear to mostly clear skies dominate the weather picture at least until late tomorrow, when a system tracking to our south churns up some upper-level energy and creates some partly cloudy skies. This will give the area a chance to cool off some with lower to mid-80s favored.

Friday looks to be partly cloudy with a marginal risk of severe thunderstorms. Some large hail my fall from these storms, but the best energy to spark off widespread activity sails to our south. This changes over the weekend with the warmer and more unstable air as our ridge of high pressure resurges into the area then that air mass is greeted with some more potent upper-level low pressure systems. This could touch off some better risks for showers and storms - perhaps strong ones - especially into your Monday when the best energy is there for things to get active.

Behind the Monday system, cooler NW winds and drier conditions are favored with upper-70s expected through most of the area. We continue to watch the ebb and flow of our ridge of high pressure and the troughs riding over it for an active pattern, and we will keep you advised on the changes regarding that.
