RAPID CITY, S.D. (KEVN) - Rapid City is growing. The City’s Long Range Planning Division estimated a more than 2% population increase from last year.

The current population is estimated at 82,418 that’s more than 7,500 more people since 2020.

“We make these projections based on the available data and the estimates assist City leaders and department staff as we make plans for the future. The information is helpful in determining projected growth as it relates to infrastructure, community planning, transportation, housing and other areas in terms of policies, guidelines and planning,” City Long Range Planner Kelly Brennan said.

The population estimate report will be taken into consideration by the City’s Legal and Finance Committee at its meeting Wednesday.
