RAPID CITY, S.D. (KEVN) - The Dahl Arts Center is starting its 50th-anniversary celebrations by displaying historical pieces from its permanent collection.

“The permanent collection started a few years after the Dahl did open but it’s a really great way, because it is our 50th anniversary, to celebrate the amazing works that are in our community, and this is a community gallery based on, you know, local and community-based art,” Curator and Gallery Director, Noah Geiger said.

The exhibit is all about taking pride in local art.

“It’s really important for the community to come see what we have and you know kind of take ownership over that, I think that’s really important for this community,” Assistant Curator and Volunteer Coordinator, Jeannie Larson said.

Some pieces in this 50th birthday exhibit haven’t been displayed in years.

“This artwork has been collected over the last 50 years and so it was a lot of digging into old archives and finding different files for everything,” Larson said.

The Dahl will have these selections on display through August 31 and a complete catalog of the permanent collection is set to be released shortly after that.
