New Miss South Dakota crowned on Saturday
RAPID CITY, S.D. (KEVN) - A new Miss South Dakota was crowned at the competition that took place Saturday, June 1.
Joelle Simpson, a Rapid City resident, was crowned Miss South Dakota 2024 after competing for the title for the first time.
Not only does Simpson get the opportunity to serve the state with her title, but will also get to compete for the title of Miss America in January.
“It’s just a great responsibility and a great honor for me. I am so excited to not only serve the state this year but also to compete at Miss America. I had so much fun performing at Miss South Dakota so I just can’t imagine how much bigger and more fun it will be there, at Nationals,” said Simpson.
Simpson is eager to connect with people during her time as Miss South Dakota. She is excited to do this through her service initiative, “Nurturing Nature,” which will enable her to engage with people of all age groups throughout the state and talk about the importance of protecting the environment.
Simpson will go on to compete for Miss America in January.
