RAPID CITY, S.D. (KEVN) - Jolly Lane Greenhouse is in Rapid Valley, off Highway 44. This shop offers greenhouse supplies, landscaping items, plants and flowers, and gardener tips.

It was originally purchased by Tim Sime’s father, Dean Sime in 1970.

“He had went to school for autobody and fender and was kind of fed up with that type of work. He had the opportunity I guess to get into a greenhouse in a small way and it’s kind of grown from that point on,” said Tim Sime, co-owner, of Jolly Lane.

From humble beginnings of just one greenhouse, the location has blossomed into 10 on-property.

Jolly Lane Greenhouse has been family-owned and operated for five decades.

“None of us really had any formal education in the horticulture, garden center business, but it was just a lot of trial and error and we just learned as we went,” Sime said.

Jolly Lane is open year-round, and while they do have most of their plants in the spring and summer, they do adapt their plants to different seasons.

“We have our production facility where we grow all the plants, everything but the nursery stock, trees, and shrubs, that’s the sort of thing we do bring in. Otherwise, we are very conscious of the quality that we raise and strive for,” Sime said.

While Jolly Lane Greenhouse provides quality plants and flowers for your garden, they also offer other benefits.

According to Northern Gardener gardening outside increases your exposure to Vitamin D, and is not only good for you but also for the plant.

Plants will convert carbon dioxide and release oxygen, this process is called photosynthesis.
