Celebrating a decade of Rapid City, Pierre & Eastern Railroad
RAPID CITY, S.D. (KEVN) - The Rapid City, Pierre & Eastern Railroad celebrated its 10th anniversary Tuesday.
The celebration was held in Rapid City with a picnic attended by employees, their families, and local community members.
The highlight of the celebration was an address by Genesee & Wyoming’s CEO, Michael Miller, who reflected on the company’s journey and achievements across South Dakota during the past decade.
“This has been probably one of the most rail-friendly states we’ve operated in; rail gets a very good focus from the department of transportation, as well as the governor’s office, even at the federal level, Senator Thune’s office, and our customers are very committed to using rail, just given the state and what products move into and out of the state, so it’s been a great 10 years for us,” Miller said.
According to Miller, safety is the most important part of operating the rail line. So far this year, the Rapid City, Pierre & Eastern Railroad has had no injuries to report.
