Rapid City parks department adds pop of color to city landscape
RAPID CITY, S.D. (KEVN) - Starting Wednesday, Rapid City will receiving a colorful boost.
The city’s parks and recreation department started the process of planting more than 25,000 flowers at hubs across Rapid City. Some of the varieties of plants that will be seen this year are Marigolds, Snapdragons, Celosia Dragon Breath, Cosmo’s, and Black-Eyed Susans. The flowers are planted to add to the quality of life in the city, making sure everybody who lives in or visits the City of Presidents is able to enjoy the amenities made available to them.
“To have bright, vibrant flowers that when people drive by, Halley Park being one of them, thousands and thousands of vehicles drive by every day, I just want to give them something to enjoy on the way in and out of the city, and we just want people to come out and enjoy our parks,” said Rapid City Greenhouse Specialist John Berglund.
The city will be planting flowers at most of the parks, and many of the main entrances leading into the heart of Rapid City.
Places that flowers will be planted in:
- Halley Park
- Wilson Park
- Sunken Gardens
- William Noordermeer Formal Gardens
- Otto’s Corner
In addition, the gargantuan banana plants will be making their return to Wilson Park this summer.
