Voting rights for U.S. citizens with a felony conviction vary from state to state
(InvestigateTV) — Millions of U.S. citizens are barred from exercising one of this country’s most important rights, the right to vote.
The reason? Felony convictions.
According to the Sentencing Project, one out of 50 people of voting age was disenfranchised due to a felony conviction in 2022.
The rate was three and a half times higher among Black Americans.
Advocates say the policies stem from the Jim Crow era and efforts to limit access to the ballot box.
