Monument Health Bariatric and Metabolic Institute received national accreditation

RAPID CITY, S.D. (KEVN) - The Monument Health Bariatric and Metabolic Institute is earning national attention after it received accreditation as a comprehensive center, making the locations in Rapid City and Spearfish the only facilities in Western South Dakota to receive this honor.

This accreditation comes from the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program. Surgeon David Fromm, M.D. is part of the institute and says this is a recognition of the work being done in his department and will hopefully mean an increase in potential patients at the facility.

Although many associate bariatric and metabolic health with weight loss, Fromm says their approach is much more than that.

”You know we’re providing comprehensive care in a way that is not only surgical care it’s going to be medical care, its psychological care, our program includes eventually gastroenterology, we’re providing procedures through that we have registered dieticians, we have dedicated clinical nursing, and support staff for that,” Dr. Fromm said.

Fromm emphasized that this recognition does not change any care or outcomes the facility normally provides it only acknowledges the work they have been doing for years.
