RAPID CITY, S.D. (KEVN) - The VFW on Main Street held a ceremony Monday saying thank you to veterans and fallen soldiers through art. They unveiled a new mural paying tribute to U.S. involvement in wars throughout the years.

The mural was created by local artist Aaron Pearcy which took him two years to complete.

The mural features different sections for various major wars the U.S. has been involved in from World War I, World War II and the Vietnam War.

As an official unveiling of the mural, speeches were given by veterans who are a part of Post 1273 and the Honor Banner Project.

“It can bring some healing to those that were involved in any of the wars. Past and present and future obviously. So I, this is just my personal contribution to be able to say thank you to everyone that’s currently serving and that has served in the past, and hopefully everyone can enjoy it,” Pearcy said.

Pearcy added that he plans to add another section to the mural to honor Gulf War veterans.
