Sunshine and lighter winds today; storms likely Wednesday, some possibly severe!
RAPID CITY, S.D. (KOTA) - Today will be sunny and a tad warmer, with generally light winds. Look for highs in the 70s.
A change in the weather is on the way Wednesday. Southerly winds will bring in moist, unstable air. Meantime, a strong upper level trough will approach from the west. These features will combine to produce thunderstorms, some of which may be severe. A thunderstorm is classified as “severe” if it produced hail 1″ in diameter or larger, and/or wind gusts of 58 mph or higher. A band of scattered storms will form tomorrow afternoon in Wyoming and around the hills and move northeast. The best chance of severe weather Wednesday will be after 3:00pm.
Thursday will be cooler with northwest winds. Friday, a chance of showers and storms will be possible, mainly around the Black Hills.
Warmer air moves in this weekend. A few storms are possible Sunday, then a warmer and drier weather pattern arrives next week.
