Sunny to Start, Then Thunderstorms on Wednesday. A Few Could Be Severe
RAPID CITY, S.D. (KEVN) -
Tonight, we will keep clear skies as we have seen all day today. Temperatures make it into the low 50s in Rapid tonight and a few spots in the Hills might get into the upper 40s. Tomorrow, temperatures warm up quickly into the 80s by the afternoon. This will give us plenty of fuel for thunderstorms that become possible by the afternoon. With those thunderstorms, a few of them could become severe. There is a level 2 out of 5 slight risk for severe weather stretching from NW SD to SW SD including Rapid City and all of the Black Hills. Lets plan out the timing for the storms. They start to fire up around 2 to 3 pm. They will spread into Western SD by the late afternoon and early evening with those stronger storms starting. Those get out of the area by Thursday morning where we see a few clouds mixed with sun remaining. Overnight, widespread 50s are likely across the region with a few spots in the Black Hills seeing upper 40s. Clear skies continue into the overnight hours. Tomorrow, we start out with sunshine for a majority of us. Those sunny skies begin to warm us up into the upper 70s and 80s by the afternoon giving plenty of fuel for thunderstorms. A few of those will be strong to severe. The next three days shows thunderstorm chances in NE Wyoming and the Northern Hills tomorrow and again on Friday with temperatures cooling off for Thursday. Rapid City sees 80s for highs tomorrow with thunderstorms while we get a break from the storms on Thursday. Friday, some more storms are possible. The weekend is looking drier on Saturday, some isolated storms are possible Sunday. We will start to dry out and warm up next week.
