RAPID CITY, S.D. (KEVN) - No veterans are forgotten this Memorial Day weekend. Dozens of volunteers made sure of that on the morning of May 26 at the Black Hills National Cemetery.

“Memorial Day is really at the end of the day it’s showing thanks for every veteran that’s fought for our country,” Alex Mattson, a volunteer at the cemetery said.

Dozens of volunteers like Mattson with Military Honor Flags USA spent their Sunday morning honoring fallen soldiers by placing American flags on every grave at the cemetery.

Each year, volunteers placed more than 24,000 flags over three cemeteries including the Black Hills National Cemetery, the Hot Springs National Cemetery and the Fort Meade National Cemetery.
