PLAINS, Ga. (WANF/Gray News) - The Georgia church where former President Jimmy Carter taught Sunday school named its first female pastor.

Reverend Ashley Guthas will take over sermons at Maranatha Baptist Church in Plains, Georgia, starting next month. She most recently served as an associate minister at Northside Drive Baptist Church in Atlanta.

Carter gave his last Sunday school lesson at Maranatha Baptist Church back in 2019.
