From the Black Hills to the Everglades, year-round flights take off

RAPID CITY, S.D. (KEVN) - It is now going to be easier for people living in Western South Dakota to get tan lines as Rapid City’s Regional Airport has nonstop flights to the nation’s sunshine state.

With Rapid City’s Regional Airport on its way to a record-breaking year, the addition of a new nonstop flight to Florida is projected to help those already growing numbers. The Allegiant Airlines flight will operate twice-weekly year-round, hoping to add to the already 15,000 passengers who fly into our market. A Lead resident expressed her optimism for the new nonstop flight, hoping this makes round-trip trips easier to manage to Orlando Sanford International Airport.

“We don’t have to do a transfer either through Denver, Minneapolis, or Chicago. Anytime we can get a direct flight out of Rapid I think that’s a win for everybody in the area,” Lead resident Brenda Belmonte said.

After a rough start to the day, Wednesday’s flight was delayed until 6:20 p.m.
