VERGAS, Minn. (KVLY/Gray News) - A Minnesota family caught a huge scare after a toddler was found face down in some water while outside.

Just before 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Otter Tail County deputies were called to a home in rural Vergas, after a woman reported finding her 1-year-old son floating face down in water.

Emergency crews from Vergas and Perham quickly responded to the home and performed life-saving measures on the child.

The woman told first responders she was outside with her three kids when she realized her young son was no longer by her side. The woman says she found the boy floating face down in some water behind an old barn on their property.

The area had been dry before the recent rainfall.

Deputies say the boy was found in 4 ½ feet deep of water.

Officials say the boy was conscious before being transported to an area hospital, however, his current condition is unknown at this time.
