LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE/Gray News) - A former sheriff is accused of using emergency medical service funds to buy classic cars, according to Indiana State Police.

Indiana State Police investigators have seized six classic cars belonging to former Clark County Sheriff Jamey Noel. According to a search warrant, police are looking for 1960s and 1970s Pontiac, Chevrolet and Plymouth cars.

The warrant said investigators noticed someone requested duplicate titles for several vehicles in Noel’s name. Investigators said that could indicate an intent to sell some of Noel’s car collection.

Title records show Noel purchased some vehicles with New Chapel EMS funds, as well as money from his late brother’s estate, according to court records. Heirs of William “Leon” Noel have reopened that estate case seeking to recover money they accuse Noel of stealing from the estate.

Investigators also said they’ve seen a pattern within the documents showing a different pen being used to record the sales prices lower than the actual purchase price.

Noel’s wife Misty and daughter Kasey also face felony charges of their own related to their spending on New Chapel credit cards. They also pleaded not guilty.

Authorities said the Noels spent $3.5 million using New Chapel’s credit cards. New Chapel has filed suit against Noel seeking to have him removed from two credit accounts paid automatically by the nonprofit.

Noel is charged with 25 felonies. He pleaded not guilty.

He is in jail on contempt charges for failing to turn over all of his guns to state police as part of his bond.
