RAPID CITY, S.D. (KEVN) - This week, Meadowbrook Golf Course in Rapid City kicked off “Operation 36,” an eight-week program to help develop beginner golfers.

This program takes in person instruction and pairs it with videos through an app on your phone to make learning the sport convenient. The group started with putting this week and will progress to the mid-range and long-range game soon.

“I thought we were going to show up and we would certainly be the parents here with a bunch of kids learning, so seeing some other people about our age is great,” said Jay Schreiber, one of the Operation 36 participants who is taking the class with his wife.

“I’m okay admitting that I’m not good at this,” said Tammy Schreiber, Jay’s wife. “I think if I was younger it might be different, but as I’ve gotten older I’m fine admitting that I need some help and I’m not the best at it.”

The couple has golfed with friends many times before, but always felt they were just out there guessing.

Their son has taken up the sport, and now they want to learn to be able to play with him.

“To see him at 12, almost 13, picking it up and it will be a lifetime sport for him, that’s exciting for me to see him do it, so I want to be out playing with him too,” Jay said.
