MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC/Gray News) - Police in Tennessee are investigating a mass shooting at a block party that left at least two people dead and seven others injured.

Police said there were nine total victims in the Saturday night shooting at Orange Mound Park in Memphis. Two men were pronounced dead on scene, and six others were taken to the hospital. The victims hospitalized were in stable condition, and one was released, WMC reports.

Police said Sunday that another victim was identified. They were in non-critical condition.

Memphis Police Chief Cerelyn Davis said the shooting took place at a block party attended by about 200 to 300 people. It’s believed there was no permit for the party.

Davis said at least two people were believed to have fired weapons during the shooting, according to the Associated Press. Police are offering a $15,000 reward for information on the suspects.

Memphis Mayor Paul Young released a statement Saturday morning regarding the shooting:

“This morning, we are one community united by grief. We are all Orange Mound this morning.

There are no words that can adequately express the pain we are all feeling over this most recent act of senseless violence - where guns were brazenly brought to a park filled with young people, families and children. And there are no words to describe the frustration of having to use the qualifier ‘most recent’ when speaking of the violence in our community.

This must stop. The violence must end. For the future of our city, we have to solve the problem together.”

Police initially reported there were 16 total victims in the shooting but later revised that number. The department believes the error happened due to victims being reported more than once.
