RAPID CITY, S.D. (KOTA) - Warm and breezy weather is expected today. Highs will be in the 70s to near 80 degrees. Southeast winds will usher in low level moisture and instability, which will lead to our first chance this year for strong to severe storms.

These thunderstorms will fire late this afternoon and evening, with a risk of large hail and damaging winds along with heavy rainfall. There is even a slight chance of an isolated tornado near the Nebraska border. Now is the time to download the KOTA Weather App so you can keep informed and safe.

As low pressure winds up to our east tomorrow, high winds will develop with northwest winds of 30 to 40 with potential gusts to 65 miles per hour possible near and east of Rapid City. Scattered showers will continue on Tuesday.

Wednesday will be showery and cool with snow in the higher hills and parts of Wyoming.

The rest of the week will be cooler than normal, then a warming trend returns Sunday into next week.
