RAPID CITY, S.D. (KEVN) - In this Mixology at Home we decided to dabble a little with AI (artificial intelligence). It is a new twist for your home bar. But does it work?

I’m not recommending this site, but BarGPT has AI-designed cocktails that for the most part, are relatively easy to make with ingredients you can find locally.

Take this week’s cocktail as an example, Honey Citrus Fizz. It is supposedly a good balance of sweet and tart. The request to AI was for a vodka cocktail that isn’t too sweet.

It uses vodka, lemon juice, honey syrup (which is easy to make, recipe is below) , orange bitters and club soda. Now, if you look at the video I made a major mistake, forgetting to bring the club soda. Surprisingly, the drink is excellent without the soda. Just put it in an old fashioned or rocks glass with a large ice cube, instead of the highball glass filled with ice.

Ingredients

  • 1.5 oz vodka
  • 1/2 oz fresh lemon juice
  • 1/2 oz honey syrup
  • 2 dashes of orange bitters
  • Club soda (try with and without the soda to determine what you like best)

Directions: In a cocktail shaker, combine vodka, lemon juice, honey syrup, and orange bitters. Fill the shaker with ice and shake vigorously for about 10 seconds. Strain the mixture into a highball glass filled with ice. Top with club soda and stir gently to combine. Garnish with a lemon wheel or twist.

Honey Syrup

In a saucepan, add a half cup of water and a half cup of honey. Bring to a boil and then lower to simmer for five minutes, making sure the honey is dissolved. Take the syrup off the burner and let it cool before putting it in a bottle or jar. It can be stored in the fridge for about two to three weeks.
