Woman found on fire on sidewalk dies; death ruled accidental

ST. LOUIS (KMOV/Gray News) - An investigation is underway after a woman was found on fire early Friday morning in North St. Louis.

St. Louis police officers were called to the 4500 block of Dr. Martin Luther King Drive for a person who was on fire around 3:30 a.m.

Officers said they found a woman who was on fire on the sidewalk. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators said surveillance video showed the woman was alone at the time of the incident. She reportedly set a small fire and then fell into it.

According to police, alcohol and drug paraphernalia were found at the scene.

The Bomb and Arson Unit was originally handling the investigation.

The woman’s death is being investigated as an accidental fire death.

Authorities did not immediately identify the woman.
