Black Hills State University hosts 26th annual research symposium
RAPID CITY, S.D. (KEVN) - Black Hills State University hosts its annual research symposium this week and Wednesday’s session included oral and poster presentations from undergraduate students involved in research.
Departments across the university were well represented, with students studying psychology, biology, chemistry, and more sharing their knowledge with visitors. This symposium has become a longstanding yearly tradition at the school.
“It’s been going on for 26 years,” said Dr. Parthasarathi Nag, a mathematics professor and co-chair of this year’s symposium. “So, quite a long time. Before even I was here.”
Student presenters had prepared for months for this event. Though they were happy to share what they learned, many students shared they were most excited to see the work of friends in other disciplines.
“I’m in the chemical field, and there’s people in psychology, and there’s people in biology, and all kinds of things I’ve never even touched,” said Megan Finstrom, a student presenter at the symposium. “And just getting to hear what they’re excited about is really cool.”
The Black Hills Research Symposium will continue through Thursday afternoon, with a keynote address from Michael Headley, the executive director at Sanford Underground Research Facility. More details on the symposium can be found on the Black Hills State University website.
