Increasing Snow Totals for This Weekend’s Snow Storm
RAPID CITY, S.D. (KEVN) -
Throughout the rest of the day today, we are going to stay fairly chilly as temperatures barely climb above the freezing mark with lots of cloud coverage. There’s a chance for some isolated snow showers and flurries throughout the day today. Heading into the overnight hours, flurries are increasingly likely as our next system gets started. Temperatures will be falling into the teens and 20s once again tonight. If you aren’t seeing flurries, you’ll be cloudy. Futurecast is showing that we are seeing on and off snow flurries tomorrow, sometimes they could be mixed with rain. The main event gets started Saturday night and into Sunday morning. Snow is looking to stick around all day Sunday. There are winter storm watches in effect for a majority of the area. A general 4 to 10 inches of snowfall can be expected throughout all of the blue watch area. Rapid City’s confidence forecast has increased. There is a decent chance that we see 5 to 9 inches of snowfall but the official forecast is 4 to 10 inches in town. Preliminary snowfall totals across the area have significantly gone up with lots of areas seeing a decent dumping of snowfall. The highest amounts will likely be to the north and east of Rapid City, with Lemmon looking like the bullseye. Temperatures throughout the rest of today stay fairly chilly with 30s likely for everyone by the late afternoon. Cloudy skies and some isolated flurries are possible through the rest of today. Overnight tonight, temperatures make it back into the teens and 20s across the area with flurries increasing in coverage and clouds remaining overhead. The next three days in NE Wyoming and the Northern Hills shows that storm system impacting everyone over the next three days. Snow likely for Sheridan, Gillette, Spearfish, and Deadwood. Rapid City sees that same snow system with breezy conditions to pair along with it for Sunday and Monday. Good news is that sunshine will return to the forecast by the middle of next week and temperatures are back into the 40s by Wednesday.
