2 horses killed, 2 riders injured after collision with car, officials say
COPIAH COUNTY, Miss. (WLBT/Gray News) - Two horses were killed and their riders were injured after a crash in Mississippi Sunday night.
The Mississippi Highway Patrol said the accident happened around 6:30 p.m. on US-51 North near Martinsville.
The highway patrol said a 2019 Chevrolet Equinox collided with two people riding on two separate horses.
Both of the horses were killed, and the two riders, 41-year-old Brent Boyd and 40-year-old Shameka Boyd, were injured.
The driver of the car and both of the Boyds were taken to the hospitals for treatment.
WLBT spoke with a friend of the Boyds who said they both have fractures in their backs and broken left ankles. Shameka Boyd also suffered a few broken ribs.
Brent Boyd underwent surgery on his ankle on Monday. Shameka Boyd is awaiting surgery for her back.
No other information on their conditions has been made available.
