RAPID CITY, S.D. (KEVN) - On Tuesday, an officer from the Sheridan Police Department was shot and killed.

Sergeant Nevada Krinkee was shot while attempting to serve a trespass warning to a male subject near the intersection of 5th Street and Val Vista Street.

The subject then left the scene, and was later located near 6th Street and N. Sheridan Avenue. The Sheridan Police Department, Sheridan County Sheriff’s Office, and the Wyoming Highway Patrol set up a perimeter, and learned the man was barricaded inside a residence. Other residents in the area were evacuated.

Krinkee was transported to Sheridan Memorial Hospital where he later died due to his injuries.

A statement from the Sheridan Police Department says “The entire department is shocked and saddened by this senseless act and appreciate all the thoughts and prayers from our community.”
