Grow your green thumb at the Sturgis Community Garden
STURGIS, S.D. (KEVN) - With an early spring being predicted by the famous groundhog Phil, people may want to get a jump start on their plans for warmer weather.
Creating a garden is one way for people to enjoy the outdoors, plus it’s an activity the whole family can join in on.
Members of the Meade County 4-H office are looking to help children and their families get in touch with their green thumb by hosting gardening classes.
The classes are open to young people from ages 5-18. Classes will cover the basics of gardening such as soil type and seeds.
“When I’m putting together this gardening class, I really want to talk to the families and ask them what they are wanting to get out of it,” said Jenny Voigt, youth program adviser for the Meade County 4-H office.” Because if a youth is wanting to do more with flowers, that’s different than a youth that is wanting to make salsa at the end of summer. And so, we don’t necessarily want it to be what we want but what they want.”
Families interested in the classes need to sign up by March 1. Classes will be held at the Sturgis Community Garden.
