Rep. Dusty Johnson shares concerns over foreign ownership of agricultural lands
RAPID CITY, S.D. (KEVN) - The Annual Black Hills Stock Show and Rodeo just kicked off Friday and South Dakota’s lone representative Dusty Johnson was in town to check it out.
The representative stopped by the Monument Event Center on Saturday afternoon to check out the livestock and to stay in touch with his constituents. Being one of the biggest agriculture events in West River, this event serves as an opportunity for Johnson to get a good feel for what issues ranchers are the most concerned about. Johnson says one topic that frequently arose was concern over foreign ownership of agricultural lands. He gave us his solution to the issue.
“That’s why I’m leading a bill that would say the Chinese communist party is not allowed to buy American farmland and they are not allowed to buy American agriculture processing facilities we’re getting a lot of momentum and I think we’re gonna be able to get it done this year,” said Representative Johnson.
Johnson says aside from foreign ownership of agricultural lands, many of the people he spoke with had concerns about southern border security. He plans to address both this year in DC.
