Camels and zebras spotted roaming alongside interstate after trailer catches fire
GRANT COUNTY, Ind. (WPTA/Gray News) - A group of circus animals, including camels and zebras, were spotted grazing on the side of Interstate 69 in Indiana after the trailer they were being hauled in caught fire.
The Grant County Sheriff’s Office reported the incident shut down traffic Saturday morning in the northbound lanes of Interstate 69 near Marion. An official with the Mizpah Shrine Circus said the trailer was on its way to Fort Wayne when the fire occurred.
Photos shared by the sheriff’s office show deputies gathering camels, zebras and a miniature horse away from the fire.
No animals were injured, according to investigators. The sheriff’s office did to officers officials were checked out for smoke inhalation.
The circus officials said the animals are now safe at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum. The sheriff’s office later reported that all lanes of traffic had been reopened.
